We rarely witness the feeling of hatred in our Mathang Community. But that evening, tension was in the air as we were witnessing hatred after many decades. The hatred was between two female monkeys of our community. Their names are- Sucheta and Vicheta. And the reason of the hatred was so peculiar that even wisest of us- Baba Mathang- was not able to resolve the issue. Sucheta Monkey has a child called “Chitta”. Chitta monkey was behaving in a very strange manner for last couple of days. His actual mother is Sucheta but he had stopped recognizing her as his mother. He was refusing to go in her lap. Instead he was going in the lap of Vicheta. Vicheta’s behavior had also changed.

Baba Mathang came down from the mountain with the speed of a monkey and Sucheta-Vicheta climbed down like a falling stone. They were all very excited to share the news of Lord Hanuman’s arrival with their community members. Baba Mathang was feeling so lucky. Around 41 years ago, he was a young boy when Lord Hanuman visited his community. Now again He had got the opportunity to see and be with Lord Hanuman. In this excitement and happiness he did not feel time while climbing down from the mountain. He was not feeling tired or sleepy. He was humming to songs of happiness and in his mind he was planning for preparations of Charan Pooja of Lord Hanuman which was to be performed next day.

When Baba Mathang, Urva and other two Mathangs men were gathering honey, six Mathang women were gathering firewood at another place as that was their work assigned for that day. Among them was a girl named Urmi. Urmi is in her early twenties. From childhood itself she was getting seizures regularly. That day also, when she was collecting firewood along with other 5 women, she got seizers. Her jaws got clenched, her body started shaking and jerking. She lost her memory for a while and started behaving abnormally. As usual, she had sensed in advance that she was about to get a seizure. She alerted other women and situated herself at a safe place so that she does not get hurt.

Urmi was lying under the tree out of tiredness caused by seizures. The twin Gods of health (Ashwins) and Lord Hanuman were standing there but they were not visible to Urmi. When Lord Hanuman showed Ashwins the past life incidences of Urmi’s soul, the Ashwins understood why they were not able to cure Urmi’s seizures with all their medicines. They saw that Urmi was peasant’s wife in her past birth and she had donated her “strings of Time” to her son. As a result her soul had got highly attached to her son’s soul. Even after her death as peasant’s wife, her soul kept wandering until her son died. After that both of them have taken new births at almost same time.

When Urmi woke up, she saw Lord Hanuman in front of her. She had seen Him in her dreams few moments ago. This made her think that she was still in her dreams. Lord Hanuman told her that she is not in her dreams anymore and that He is standing in front of her near her village where she had come to collect firewood.

Sitting in the holy feet of Lord Hanuman, first words which came on Urmi’s lips were, “O Lord, you are very fast. You were in the SwapanLoka a moment back and now you are here on Earth! Travelling from SwapanLoka to Earth within a moment…!”

Lord Hanuman had appeared before all the Mathangs in separate incidences so that now all of them knew of His arrival. The last Mathang to know of His arrival was Basantha, a man in his 50s. Late in evening Basantha came running towards the camp. With a heavy breath he was shouting, “Lord Hanuman has arrived on our land…. Lord Hanuman has arrived.”

Other Mathangs already knew of Lord Hanuman’s arrival but they were not able to speak about it. When they heard Basantha’s voice loud and clear; they also shouted, “ho… ho… Lord Hanuman has arrived.” They all gathered around Baba Mathang and Mata Mathang.

Baba Mathang started the Charan Pooja ceremony for Yajman Basantha by giving his introduction, “O Lord Hanuman! When you came 41 years ago, Basantha was a child. At that time our camp was on a mountain of Sapth Kanya mountain range. That is where the Charan Pooja ceremony happened last time. That is where you gave supreme knowledge to all the Brahmanas present here; including me. It is a tragic story why we left that mountain. It is very painful for me to jog through memory of that tragedy but Basantha’s introduction cannot be completed if I don’t do it.”

When Baba Mathang finished the ritual of Arpanam for Yajmaan (host) Charita, the moment of Prasadam was observed. Lord Hanuman asked Charita, “O the innocent one, I am pleased with the devotion with which you offered your Karma in the form of Arpanam. Do ask what you seek in Prasadam.”

Charita secretly wished for a child. She was trying to conceive since last several months without any success. She could not gather the courage to express this wish before Lord Hanuman. The words which finally came on her lips were, “O Lord Hanuman, supreme knowledge is what all we Mathangs seek. Bless me with the knowledge which leads to Moksha (liberation of soul).”

After the process of Arpanam was over for Yajmaan JanakiRupa, Lord Hanuman said to her, “Devi, I am happy at the way you have surrendered your Karma. Do ask, what do you seek as Prasadam?”

Janakirupa replied, “O Lord, as you know, we Mathangs keep only one long term possessions – the gemstones which help us to connect with our ancestors. My husband Basantha’s father lost our family-gemstones long back in SapthKanya mountains. He could neither get Moksha nor rebirth, because his soul is hanging with a single desire of getting those gemstones back to our family.

After completing Arpanam for yajmaan Kaaljita, Baba Mathang motioned her for Prasadam proceedings, only to find her in a state of trans, oblivious of what was happening around her. Baba Mathang smiled nervously at Lord Hanuman, took 4 long hurried steps to reach Kaaljita, and put his warm hand on her forehead. Her body shook, as though she was hit by a thunder light. She struggled to stand on her feet, clambered her way towards Lord Hanuman, and knelt down with her head bowed beseechingly. She did not utter a single word but expressions on her face were that of a person begging for her life. Though there was no danger to her life at that moment.
